United Methodist Women

HSUMC has a local unit of United Methodist Women with 34 members. UMW's purpose and objectives are shared throughout the national organization making its support of global ministries very effective.

In addition to supporting global ministries, the members of UMW are also asked to be involved with local missions focusing on women, children and youth. Put simply, UMW is the group of women in each congregation organized for mission.
Organizationally, United Methodist Women is the successor to the home and foreign missionary societies and guilds of the seven predecessor denominations that now comprise the United Methodist Church. The Women's organization has been in existence for 137 years.
Because the United Methodist Church is a connectional church, local units of United Methodist Women relate directly to district and conference organizations of United Methodist Women and to the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries.
This community of women is:
-centered in relationship with God through Jesus Christ;
-focused on ministries with women, children, and youth;
-involved in mission locally and globally;
-committed to inclusiveness;
-pledged to provide financial support for mission through Undesignated Mission Giving;
-engaged in the development and us of skills for service, leadership development, and personal growth; and
-encouraged to work with other organizations on issues of mutual concern.
The United Methodist Women is a community of women with a special PURPOSE.  That PURPOSE statement reads as follows:
"The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church."
Members are women of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; employed and unemployed; women with disabilities; housewives and business women; single, married, widowed, young women, middle-aged women, older women; college/university women; multicultural and multiracial women committed to mission.
United Methodist Women of HSUMC welcomes all women in our congregation to join.  The group meets on the third Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Great Room.  Each meeting includes an interesting program followed by a brief business meeting.  To learn more about this dynamic group, its members and how to join, call the church office.
A new group has organized and meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM.  This group is composed of ladies who are in the work force during the day.
